The Rock’s “Rampage” excites and entertains
If you’re a fan of King Kong or Godzilla, then Rampage is for you.
Rampage stars Dwayne Johnson as Davis Okoye, a primatologist who raises an ape called George after rescuing from poachers. Their friendship is a special relationship full of pranks and joking as well as mutual understanding.
One night, a chemical test called “CRISPR” falls to the Earth after an explosion in space. Three samples from the space lab fall in different parts of the Earth causing three different animals to inhale it. One of those animals is George, another is a wolf, and the other is a crocodile. With the help of a discredited genetic engineer, Dr. Kate Caldwell (Naomie Harris), both race to get to a tower in Chicago, IL, that is sending out a call to the three animals. With the animals heading towards Chicago, both Okoye and Caldwell need to get there to get the anecdote that will heal the animals as well as stopping two evil doctors, Claire Wyden (Malin Åkerman) and Brett Wyden (Jake Lacy) who want to get samples of the animals to test for money.
Rampage is full of action, comedy, and a fair share of tacky parts. It felt like a combination of Godzilla and King Kong; one big lizard versus a big ape.
For an action movie, it has a lot of rich relationships with Okoye and George as well as Okoye and Caldwell. Rampage was entertaining and definitely a movie that would be fun to see in your downtime.
Rampage is in theaters now.
