Terry Rozier Plays Big Role for Celtics in Teams 50th Win of the Season.

Less than 48 hours after dramatically defeating the Portland Trail Blazers, the Celtics continued their road trip in Sacramento to take on the lottery bound Kings. With star point guard Kyrie Irving out another three to six weeks recovering from knee surgery, reserve guard Terry Rozier has had to step up his game, and he has done exactly that on more than a few occasions. The latest example, the spectacle he put on at the Golden 1 Center on Sunday.
In 35 minutes, Rozier shot 75% from the field (12/16), including 66% from three (8/12). To go along with a career high 33 points, Rozier was only one made three pointer away from tying the Celtics record for most threes made in a single game. He also added three assists to his line with some impressive passes. On the defensive side of things, the former Louisville Cardinal racked up five defensive rebounds and five steals. So he got the job done on both sides of the court, which led to a +/- of +18, third best on the team last night.
Speaking of +/-, Jaylen Brown made his return to in-game action after missing the last six games with a concussion and led the team in that category, finishing +24 on the night to go along with 19 points.
Since Kyrie is going to miss the rest of the regular season, I’m curious to see what else Scary Terry has in store with just nine games before the postseason begins. In his age 23 season, Rozier has put up career highs in just about every major statistical category Basketball Reference has to offer.
The magic number for the Celtics to clinch the #2 seed in the Eastern Conference is now four. The Toronto Raptors, the current #1 seed, have eight games left, two of which come against the Celtics. Having played each other twice already, the two sides have split the series thus far. So if the Raptors begin to slip and lose hold of their 3.5 game lead, those two games could be crucial for homecourt throughout the playoffs. The Celtics play their next game against another lottery bound team in the Phoenix Suns on Monday night.
