The Storm(i) Has Arrived
While the Philadelphia Eagles may have won Super Bowl 52, which I’m still upset about, Kylie Jenner really won Super Bowl Sunday. The 20-year-old makeup and media mogul announced early Sunday afternoon that she gave birth to her first child, a daughter, with rapper Travis Scott on February 1st.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock these past six months, you’ll also know that many rumors flew around gossip sites and magazines that Jenner and her half-sisters Kim and Khloe Kardashian were all expecting children.
Kim announce her third pregnancy with husband and rapper Kanye West via surrogate in June 2017. Her baby girl, named Chicago was born in January 2018.
Khloe kept her pregnancy more underwraps, only just announcing her first child via instagram in late December. Khloe and NBA boyfriend Tristan Thompson are expecting a baby in April 2018.
However, out of all Kylie has been the most secretive. The star has been notoriously absent from her Instagram and Snapchat, only using the platforms for promotions of her make-up brand, Kylie Cosmetics.
Her February 4th Instagram post explains why. Her announcement of the pregnancy also explained why she disappeared from the public eye, and to me, it’s beautiful.
“I’m sorry for keeping you in the dark through all the assumptions. I understand
you’re used to me bringing you along on all my journeys. My pregnancy was one I chose not to do in front of the world. I knew for myself I needed to prepare for this role of a lifetime in the most positive, stress free, and healthy way I knew how. There was no gotcha moment, no big paid reveal I had planned. I knew my baby would feel every stress and every emotion so I chose to do it this way for my little life and our happiness.”
This is from a girl who has spent her life in the spotlight since she was 13, who has faced harsh criticisms for her looks and attitude through the past seven years. Kylie has been quoted saying she hides a majority of her private life from the public eye. She shows only a very calculated and precise version of herself to the world.
Her announcement and the decision to keep her pregnancy to herself and her family shows just how wise the private Kylie Jenner we usually never see can be.
Following the announcement via Instagram, Jenner posted a 12 minute video titled To Our Daughter, showcasing never before seen footage of the past nine months including a segment of Kylie’s birth to mother Kris Jenner, the first glimpse of baby Reign, Kourtney’s child, and detailed doctors appointments.
On February 6th, Jenner once again took to social media to make an announcement, this time being the name of her daughter. The post was simple; showing the baby holding onto her mother’s thumb, with the caption “stormi webster”
Whether you like Kylie Jenner or not, you have to give her credit for handling a life-changing experience in the most mature way she could. I, for one, applaud her decision and wish her, her boyfriend, and her baby nothing but happiness and love.
