Kelly Clarkson, Camila Cabello And More Perform At The Kiss108 Jingle Ball
It’s that time of year again. The time of year when dozens of musicians get together in cities around the United States to perform, and it’s all thanks to iHeart Radio who puts on this not so little tour called The Jingle Ball Tour. One of the tour stops is Boston. This year’s star-studded line up included acts such as Halsey, Fifth Harmony, Why Don’t We, Charlie Puth, MAX, Sabrina Carpenter, Fall Out Boy, Camila Cabello and Kelly Clarkson. The night was full of joy, music. and happiness.
The show kicked off with Why Don’t We. Why Don’t We is a current boyband who has only been around for one year and is already dominating the radio stations. With catchy songs like “Something Different,” and “These Girls,” the band will sure make a lasting career. This year alone, the band has performed at events such as, Arthur Ashe Kids Day and also just performed at the Z100 Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The Suffolk Voice writer Will Heffernan was on the red carpet and backstage at the Kiss108 Jingle Ball at TD Garden in Boston and had the chance to ask what the stand out moment of the year was for them. “Probably MSG. We played it two nights ago, it was insane just seeing all the fans there just supporting us. We tweeted about it too which was crazy. Way back when we weren’t even in a band together, we would all tweet like that would be crazy if one day, but it’s not going to happen. Then all our fans were tweeting us about it and were saying like, told you so! Like fans are amazing.” The band also had the chance to talk to Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran backstage at MSG and they told The Suffolk Voice what that moment felt like, “Well you see here, those two are some geniuses, they’re like the King and Queen. It was like walking into the King and Queen’s room, it was crazy. People always ask us who we look up to in the industry, who do you find your inspiration from? And those two are always people we bring up, so it’s like getting to meet them and having them want us to come to their green room, which was so surreal.”
Following their performance was the talented young musician, Sabrina Carpenter. Carpenter recently finished touring with New Hope Club and Alex Aiono. Carpenter is known for her songs like “Thumbs,” and her recent song “Why.” Carpenter told The Suffolk Voice what her one stand out moment was for her this year. “There were a lot of stand-out moments. I think that there are two, getting to perform in Brazil for the first time was such an incredible experience because they’re such a phenomenal crowd and I got to open for Ariana Grande there. I became a Ryan Seacrest ambassador for the Ryan Seacrest foundation and that was a great moment because I got to visit so many children in hospitals, I was just there today at the Boston Children’s Hospital and I got to go all around the U.S. while I was touring and visit so many kids in the hospitals and that was just a highlight for me.” Carpenter also informed The Suffolk Voice that she’s working on a new album, “I’m working on my third album and I’m very close to the finish point on that I think, so it’s going to be a crazy year so far.”
After Sabrina Carpenter performed, MAX, a new upcoming artist took the stage. MAX is known for his song “Lights Down Low,” which he wrote to propose to his wife Emily.
Camila Cabello took the stage as well performing her mega hit “Havana” as well as her recent song “Never Be The Same.”
Charlie Puth, Berklee College of Music graduate, took the stage performing his hit songs: “Attention,” “How Long,” and his classic song, “See You Again.”
Other acts included Halsey, who sang a duet with Lauren Jauregui, member of Fifth Harmony, who also took the stage to perform their hits like “Work From Home,” and “Worth It.” Fall Out Boy closed the show with their songs “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark.”
Every performance was amazing, whether it was the choreography or the vocals. Speaking of which, probably the biggest star of the night was Kelly Clarkson. Clarkson performed her iconic hits “Since U Been Gone,” “My Life Would Suck Without You,” “Stronger,” and her recent smash hit “Love So Soft.” Clarkson also has a Christmas album out called Wrapped In Red as well as a Christmas single called “Christmas Eve.” Clarkson told The Suffolk Voice what her favorite thing about the holidays is, “I think my favorite thing about the holidays is that we’re not working, I think that’s everyone right? I mean it’s the one time that society say’s it’s ok to stop, so it’s the time to just be still. We have four kids, I mean it’s hard working and being a present parent, so it’s nice, you get time to actually play games, and I’m not the mom that lets them win, no but it’s fun and we just hang out. We have a farm so we like four wheeling and tons of fun stuff.”
The 2017 Kiss108 Jingle Ball was a great way to celebrate the holidays. Whether you went alone, with friends and family or didn’t even go but watched the performances online, it felt like the holidays at TD Garden.
