Your Halloweekend Should Include Stranger Things Season 2
Stranger Things has become one of the best things to ever happen in my life, period. As if winning seven out of the nineteen Emmy’s it was nominated for wasn’t enough to prove how great of a show it is, season one of Stranger Things is in the Top 10 most watched seasons of Netflix Originals, ever. It’s “certified fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes at 96%, with an audience score of 95%. In other words, a lot of people love this show.
It isn’t hard to see why. Pop culture references to classics like The Goonies, E.T., and Star Wars, add a touch of nostalgia to the show. The characters are in-depth and believable, even if the actual plot may seem a tad unbelievable. There is, of course, the loveable Winona Ryder who plays Joyce Byers brings in the cult fans of the 80’s and people like me who just adore her.
Believe me, when 12AM rolls around on October 27th, I’m going to be planted in front of my TV ready to binge Season 2. With the promise of new characters, more Upside-Down absurdity, and the return of Eleven, I’m possibly more hyped for Stranger Things than I am for Halloween.
Let’s talk about what we know so far. From the trailers released by Netflix over the past few months, we know some things for certain:
Eleven will be making an appearance, and it looks like she’s breaking out of the Upside-Down. Hopefully her and Mike reunite and finally get their dance at the Snowball. We also know some new characters, step-siblings Max and Billy, will have their own roles to play in aiding or disrupting the lives of our main characters.
We also know Will hasn’t completely left the Upside-Down. At the end of the previous season, we see him cough up a slug-type thing, which makes its way down his drain. In the first trailer, Will is still plagued by visions of Demogorgon, to the point where Joyce takes him to a doctor to figure out what’s going on. Speaking of Joyce, she’s got a new love interest this season. Bob Newby, played by Sean Astin (who played Mikey in The Goonies) has his ST premiere this season.
Now let’s talk predictions, aka what I want to see from this show. Depending on when she’s put back into the Hawkins we know and love, I would love to see Eleven and Max team up to kick some Upside-Down butt. The two seem tough and generally badass, and would make an amazing girl power combo. Also, Will and Eleven need to be introduced. Those kids went through some tough stuff, and the only person they could relate to is each other.
The good news about this situation is that Netflix has already confirmed the third season, and looking at the hype surrounding season two alone, will probably create a fourth as well. The Duffer Brothers, aka the geniuses who write and direct a significant portion of this show, have stated that their end goal would be to wrap the show up in four seasons. They aren’t opposed to writing a fifth if need be, but four is the goal.
For anyone interested in binging the second season of Stranger Things, the release will happen Friday October 28, 2017 at 3am EST and 12am PST, so set your alarms and brew your coffee now.
