PR Account Manager Visits Suffolk Public Relations Society

Beth Gibbons from Hollywood PR in Hingham, Massachusetts visited Suffolk University’s Public Relations Society (SUPR) Tuesday to speak about the many different fields students can go into after graduating, as well as her own career path. From trade shows to reporter pitching, Gibbons covered her knowledge of the PR industry to help students better understand what they can expect after graduating.

“Get internships now,” said Gibbons. She stressed that getting an internship now will help students network and could lead to a future career path. “You never know who you will meet,” she said.

Gibbons has eight years of experience in the PR industry. Having worked for nightclubs hosting Khloé and Lamar and having worked for Muck Boots, a high-performance boot company, she was able to give insight into a variety of PR fields that the students were interested in.

The talk itself was informative and helpful to the 14 students who attended the session. “This was amazing,” said Alexia Boukou, a Suffolk student, adding that she felt she learned from Gibbons speaking engagement and was pleased with her experience.

Gibbons extended her knowledge to the students by following up with tips on how she believes they could succeed. Her main tip: networking. Along with internships, Gibbons explained that networking also allows you to meet a variety of people. In fact, her favorite part of PR is “making relationships and learning personalities,” said Gibbons.

The speaker opportunity allowed PR students of Suffolk University to network themselves with Beth Gibbons. Students were able to ask questions concerning their own careers, how they should be applying for jobs, and who they should be talking to.

Students left the event feeling excited about their own careers and excited for more speakers to be hosted by SUPR in the fall semester. “I wasn’t sure myself what I was stepping into when I switched to a PR major, but I’m glad I am here now,” said Janaye Kerr, following the event. She not only learned more about the PR field, but also was able to connect with Gibbons through much of the advice she gave about the PR field and the tactics involved.

Hollywood PR is a boutique PR firm is currently located in Hingham, Massachusetts. They have a variety of work with clients including Samsonite, Calgon, Honeywell, and New England Coffee.
