Sevilla Wins Europa League
Sevilla were able to make a stunning comeback to beat Liverpool and win their third consecutive Europa League title.
Liverpool had the game under control during the first half, but the team suffered a dramatic second-half collapse, which helped Sevilla win 3-1. Liverpool looked like they were going to secure the title by how good they were playing. A beautiful strike from Daniel Sturridge with the outside of his left foot gave Liverpool the lead at the moment.
Second-half started and it all came down for Liverpool. It took 17 seconds of the second-half for Sevilla to react and score, which tied up the game 1-1. In the 64th minute, Sevilla player Coke scored the second goal, which gave the Spanish team the lead. Sevilla showed how superior they were on the field and it lead to a third goal by Coke who came in clutch for the Spanish team.
Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool felt distraught at the end of the game knowing his team had lost the title. Klopp believes that he and the whole team need to learn from this experience so it doesn’t happen again.
“We need to use the experience because I am sure we will again be in a final and we will have decisive moments and if we do we will react better,” he said. “They are still young, this was the players’ first big final, but unfortunately it is the second time we have lost a final this season.”
“We will use this experience together and then someday everyone will say Basel was a very decisive moment in the future of Liverpool.”
Liverpool fans hope the English team gets better for next season. The team knows they let the fans down and they are ready to do a great preseason so next season they can be the topic of conversation in the English league.
Sevilla became the first team to win a European competition three times in a row since German team Bayern Munich who achieved this in the years between 1974-1976. The team felt happy and joyful they were able to achieve this great accolade. Next season the Spanish team will be in the Champions league and they are hoping to make an impact in the competition. Sevilla defender Daniel Carrico says it is time to celebrate what they have achieved.
“Next season we will be in the Champions League and it is another challenge for us. We will see what happens next season but it is now time to celebrate.”
