American Idol Says Goodbye

After 15 seasons of American Idol, the producer of the show, Simon Fuller, decided to call it quits. So on Thursday April 7, 2016, the show’s finale aired and it was emotional. The show was full of nostalgia and so many past Idols.

The Finale had so many previous Idols on stage. The show opened with Barack Obama praising the show for its success and stating how “American Idol” not only had millions of viewers for every episode, but how it has changed the ways of voting, and how the Presidential election process is trying to have voting online just like Idol.

The show then started its many performances. First, all the contestants of season 15 started singing the song “One Voice”, and as the song progressed each season of contestants came out onto stage all the way to the beginning, season 1. The performance had so many bittersweet emotions in it.

The night also consisted of many idol throwbacks. The Pop Medley included Kara Dioguardi, joined by season 6 winner Jordin Sparks. Sparks performed “Sober” by P!nk and was immediately followed by season 11’s Colton Dixon, who performed an original song called “Through All of it”. Following this performance, Jordin Sparks came back out to perform her hit “No Air” along with season 1 runner up Justin Guarini. After this performance season 2’s Kimberley Locke sang one of her songs. Following this performance, Tamyra Gray from season 1 performed Little Big Town’s hit “Girl Crush” along with Jordin Sparks, Kimberley Locke, and Justin Guarini. After this, Jordin Sparks, Pia Toscano, and other performers joined together to perform Meghan Trainor’s hit song “NO”. During this performance, the infamous Larry Platt came out to perform his one hit wonder “Pants on the Ground. To close the medley performance, Pia Toscano sang Celine Dion’s hit song “All by Myself ”. The medley made many fans feel throwback emotions.

Another notable performance was the Idol acoustic medley, which consisted of Katharine McPhee from season 5, Casey James from season 9, Clay Aiken who was the runner up in season 2, season 2 winner Reuben Stutter, Carly Smithson from season 7, Amber Holcomb from season 7, and to close the medley was season 11 runner up Jessica Sanchez runner up who sang Celine Dion’s “The Prayer” and notably nailed it.

Jennifer Lopez performed her new song “Ain’t Your Mama” and after performed her classic “Lets Get Loud”. The performance made the crowd literally jump up and down. Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood performed a duet of “Stop Dragging My Heart Around”, which wowed the crowd from Keith’s guitar skills to Carrie’s killer vocals. This performance was among the many memorable ones. And to end the night Carrie Underwood sang an emotional version of her song “Something in the Water”. Confetti at the end rained over the audience and Underwood began to tear up.

As show business goes, the show must come to an end. And at 10:01 pm Ryan Seacrest announced that Trent Harmon is the final American Idol winner, the bookend to Kelly Clarkson.
