Seven Last Minute Christmas Gift Ideas
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The end of December marks Christmas, going home, and the end of finals. All happy things. However, the end of December also marks gift giving season, and if you’re like most college kids, you’re astonishingly broke and a master procrastinator. As hard as you try, you’re doomed to give friends and family lame Boston mugs and magnets you picked up on your last day in town. It’s a sad truth, but it doesn’t have to be an inevitable one this year. Here are seven quick and wicked cheap gifts to get this Christmas.
- Candy Bag
Remember when you were a kid and you’d go to your friend’s birthday party and their parents used to hand out those little baggies of candy before you left? What ever happened to those? They were the bomb when we were seven, but all of a sudden it was like everyone made the silent, unanimous decision to stop handing them out. This Christmas you could be the cool kid that brings it back and eat the extra candy you buy to assemble your candy gift bags.
Socks are perhaps the easiest and most solid gift anyone can buy. They’re usually cheap, sold practically everywhere, and really, everyone could use another pair. Fuzzy, designed, knee highs, the possibilities are endless. Plus, in New England, if there’s anything you need this time of year, it’s warm socks.
- The Re-Gift
This might not be the classiest of routes, but everyone is guilty of the re-gift at some point in time. Embrace it! One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Whether it’s something your distant cousin got you on the ride over for last year’s Christmas, or an endearingly wrong gift given by a friend, we all have things we just plain don’t want. If you know someone who would like something that you don’t want, go ahead and re-gift. Just make sure you don’t re-gift to the person that gave it to you in the first place.
- As Seen on TV
Most drug stores nowadays have a section for the As Seen on TV products, and as ridiculous as some (most) of them are, a lot of them prove to be shockingly useful. You can find Frozen themed Snackeez, blankets with sleeves, nail polish kits. Just about everything you can think of, and super cheap. Try to forget about the embarrassing commercials that go along with it, and your gift is ready to wrap.
- Framed Pictures
Cheap frames under ten dollars are usually at department stores, or sometimes even dollar stores. If you print out a picture of you and someone special, suddenly a really quick and cheap gift is sincere and sweet. Essentially you’re gifting long-lasting memories, and really, that’s priceless (I.E. really, really cheap).
- Ingredients in a Jar
Everyone loves to eat. That’s just fact. And if you can’t cook it, you can definitely pour some sugar and chocolate chips into a jar. Mason jars are cute enough, but filling the jar with something that can eventually be turned into a snack makes it even better. No one will care how inexpensive and last-minute this one is as long as you don’t screw up the measurements in flour.
- Popcorn and a Movie
Popcorn and a movie, they’re two halves in a whole. The perfect match. Who can resist it? Supermarkets everywhere sell those huge bags of pre-made movie theatre popcorn, and as long as you get a half decent movie, you’ve got a decent gift. You’re helping lazy people everywhere, by being lazy yourself. It’s beautiful, really.
