New England plagued with injuries
During Sunday Night’s win against the Washington Redskins at Gillette Stadium the Patriots lineup suffered yet another injury.
The past couple of injuries were on the offensive line (most notably Nate Solder who was ruled out for the season). Instead this injury was more devastating; running back Dion Lewis tore his ACL.
Now this is hard news for any Patriots fan to hear. We put Lewis in this year and he became such a prominent role in the Patriots run game. He was able to get through holes in defenses and make first downs and then some.
Before this season, nobody knew who Dion Lewis was. He was a fifth round pick by the Eagles and Lewis played two seasons with them as a member of the practice squad. Lewis actually hadn’t had a regular season catch with them since 2012. However this all changed when the Patriots picked traded for him and he has been a powerful weapon in our offense this season. He went down in the second half of the game against the Redskins.
Dion Lewis was ruled out for the season following the MRI that showed he had in fact torn his ACL. With one of the best offensive lineman and one of the best running backs both on our team both now being ruled out for the season is quite a sting the Patriots offense. Patriots still have running back LeGarrette Blount who is not as fast, but he is able to create holes in a defense by running right through opposing players. Blount will have some serious shoes to fill with the loss of Lewis, but this will be a test of the real strength of the Patriots offense.
