Fall in Love with Fall Lipsticks

Fall is the time of pumpkin spice, crisp mornings, cool nights, warm sweaters, scarves, and best of all: fall makeup trends, particularly dark lipsticks.

This is the time when dark colors and mattes are most popular, making a statement and giving you that bold look. If you’re looking for a place to find a wide assortment of popular fall lipsticks including shades of burgundy, wine colors, and the dark purples, MAC cosmetics is a great place to go.

Matte lipsticks by MAC are very popular during this season, especially since they recently released their “M∙A∙Cnificent Me” collection, which is a new line of limited edition products. This collection includes matte and mattene (half matte, half satin) lipsticks.

The more popular matte lipsticks from this collection are Deep Love, a deep brown wine color, and Fashion Revival, a deep cranberry color. (Tip: To make Fashion Revival last longer, use Dark Out long-wear lip liner.)

Great fall mattene colors from the “M∙A∙Cnificent Me” collection are Own the Look, a deep intense purple, and Power My Spirit, a deep black plum. What’s good about these lipsticks is that they have the matte look, without the feeling of dried-out lips.

There are other matte lipsticks that MAC carries that are available year round. However, the popular ones around this season are particularly the shades of red.  A few of these are Diva, a dark burgundy color that goes great with a burgundy lip liner; Studded Kiss, a dark oxblood red; and D is for Danger, a lovely brick red shade.

Purple shades are just as popular as the reds. One of the top sellers is Smoked Purple, a deep eggplant purple that, when combined with the Nightmoth lip pencil, has a color that really pops. Nightmoth lip pencil is a blackened plum color that also goes hand in hand with the lipstick, Instigator.

If you don’t like the way that matte lipsticks leave your lips feeling dry, you can always go for lipsticks with a stain finish, or an “amplified” finish.  Satin lipsticks have a soft and shiny finish and have lighter pigmentation. Amplified lipsticks are highly pigmented and are long wearing, but will not leave your lips feeling dry.

Good amplified lipsticks to try out are Dark Side and Diva Antics, which are both an intense reddish burgundy (in case you don’t want to use the matte version of Diva).

Rebel is a satin lipstick that is a similar shade to Fashion Revival. If you want this shade but don’t want the matte, it’s a good substitute. It has a softer, shiny finish and is a pretty shade of plum purple. Both go well with the Dark Out liner.

Fall has many beautiful components that make this season enjoyable and the favorite of many people. Adding a beautiful bold lip is a plus and makes the season all the better. In addition to the suggestions here, there are many other fall colors out there and many other different stores. Feel free to check out The Mac store on Newbury Street, or The Mac section located in the Macy’s on Winter Street.

Happy shopping!
