Natural or Not? Celebrities Try a Bold Makeup Look
The red carpet is where any celebrity aspires to be. Once they achieve this goal it becomes a night to show off their most lavish looks and how they’re sporting the latest trends—or being a little daring and veering away from them. The latest makeup fashions that have been featured are bold lips and lashes along with some more natural looking faces.
Actresses like Jessie J were seen wearing a fierce matte burgundy lipstick liked by many. Others such as Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry have been rocking the smoky eye, while both Miley and Rihanna were showing off a more casual look. But two well known women seemed to have caught the eye of many lately, causing some criticism and speculations. Uma Thurman and Renée Zellweger have changed their looks and some are unsure how to feel.
At her red carpet premiere of the new series The Slap, Uma Thurman went with a new and bold look. It featured a bright red lip, a glowing complexion, and a feathery brow. Eye makeup was kept extremely light with only a touch of shimmering shadow and a complete absence of eyeliner and mascara. Her makeup artist for the evening, Troy Surratt, calls the look he created “effortless Parisienne chic” he shares in an interview with People magazine.
This appearance was so out of the normal for Uma that some people started to question whether or not she went under plastic surgery. Surratt continues to justify the new trend by saying, “By now I would have thought that we were all open to and knowledgeable of the role that makeup plays in the world of fashion and particularly celebrity, as a medium for creative self expression. I think that women should feel open and free to experiment with different beauty looks — it’s only makeup, at the end of the day it all washes off.” Only time will tell if Uma will be adventurous enough to return to this unusual style.
Renée Zellweger was seen at the red carpet for the Elle Women in Hollywood Awards, making one of her first public appearances in some time. Media critics started labeling her as unrecognizable and claimed that her face had completely changed. Then when spotted without any makeup and still looking nothing like the actress from Bridget Jones Diary, rumors of plastic surgery grew even more.
Renée told an interviewer with People magazine that she is finally happy and healthy, a feeling she has not had in a long time. She then explains, “My friends say that I look peaceful. I am healthy. For a long time I wasn’t doing such a good job with that. I took on a schedule that is not realistically sustainable and didn’t allow for taking care of myself. Rather than stopping to recalibrate, I kept running until I was depleted and made bad choices about how to conceal the exhaustion. I was aware of the chaos and finally chose different things.” Whether or not Renée did get cosmetic procedures done or has yet to be confirmed, but that won’t stop others from making their own assumptions.
The public is quick to question whenever a celebrity changes their look, whether just for the night or permanently. It’s risky to make changes in appearance without accusations being thrown or plain negativity. Both of these women made a bold move that is stunning—and whether that’s elegant or appalling is up to you.
