Nwadike’s 34 Points Lead Suffolk Over NEC
BOSTON – The Suffolk men’s basketball team topped New England College, 96-81, at Regan Gymnasium Sunday to improve their record to 3-3 on the season.
Senior guard Sam Nwadike dropped 34 points for the Rams, going 7 for 7 at the line 3 for 4 beyond the arc. Junior guard Caleb Unni led the team with 10 of the Rams’ 41 rebounds.
Despite being up, 44-37, at the half, the Rams couldn’t find a way to halt the Pilgrim attack early in the second. Four consecutive layups and a free throw gave NEC a 62-54 lead with 12 minutes remaining.
Nwadike sliced into the deficit with a 3-pointer from the corner. That kicked off a 19-3 rally for the Rams, who jumped to a 73-65 lead before NEC could lock them down on defense.
Suffolk and NEC traded points, but the Rams were able to control the ball late, and walked off with the 96-81 victory.
The Rams’ next contest is Tuesday when they host Norwich at 7 p.m. at Regan Gymnasium.
