Jared Remy Pleads Guilty to Murder
Jared Remy, the son of Red Sox broadcaster, Jerry Remy, has plead guilty to murdering his girlfriend, Jennifer Martel, 27, today in court. Remy was sentenced to life in prison, without the possibility of parole.
During a pre-trial hearing at Middlesex County Superior Court, word that prosecutors and Remy, 35, reached a plea agreement came down around 10:00 a.m.
In in front of members of the Martel family, Remy admitted to stabbing and killing Martel in their Waltham home last August. He confirmed almost all of what the prosecution alleged he did, but wanted to clarify; “she threatened me with a knife, so I killed her.”
Per Waltham Police, Remy was booked at the police headquarters on August 13 on assault and battery charges. On August 15th, he was arrested on murder and assault charges.
When Judge Kathe Tuttman asked if Remy understood the nature of the penalties against him, he said he did. He confirmed to the judge that he was making the plea under his own volition, that he was not forced into doing it.
“Blame me for this, not my family,” said Remy.
