SGA Senator of the Month: Brianna Silva
Brianna Silva, a freshman majoring in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science, has started off her first year with a bang. This Florida native has actively been involved in Theta Phi Alpha, Greek Council, Musicians Network, Res Life and Housing and RHA. She has also made her mark on campus through her position as Senator of SGA and more specifically her dedication as a committee member of the SGA Public Relations Committee.
Although Brianna is only in her second semester, she has played an integral role in the launch of the “Take the Stairs Campaign” and the “Smoking Campaign,” which encourages students to move across the street instead of smoking and crowding around the academic buildings. Currently, Brianna is working on the Musician’s Network Open Mic, fundraising with Theta Phi Alpha, and helping with the planning of the SGA Leadership Awards.
Before Suffolk, Brianna had been a member of SGA in high school during all four years. However, that did not stop her because she, “really wanted to get involved, and help make a difference.” SGA is more than just an extra-curricular activity for Brianna. When asked what she loves the most about being a Senator, Brianna said, “I love how hard working all the members of SGA are. Back in high school SGA wasn’t what I thought it would be, but Suffolk exceeded all my expectations. Everyone who’s there truly wants to make a difference within the school, and their teamwork is truly incredible.”
Balancing class and outside involvements may seem difficult, however Brianna believes that time management, while also taking time for yourself, is the key to making your time in college worthwhile. Turning Suffolk into the best years of your life will come easy if you enjoy every experience.
“I love that Suffolk is in the city, I love the beautiful things I see when walking to class, and I just love how amazing our professors are. Although I have an 8:00 a.m. class, I don’t have an issue waking up early because I always look forward to class,” she says.
Brianna hopes to one day become a correspondent for “E!” and host her own nighttime television show. So far, she is off to a great start.
