Guardians of the Galaxy Debut

The wait is finally over. Last night on Jimmy Kimmel (2/18/14) Christopher Pratt Debuted the world premiere trailer of Guardians of the Galaxy, the fourth movie to be released in Marvel’s phase two batch of films in their cinematic universe. Since the announcement of the film there has been a lot of mystery about the direction of the film, who these characters are, and what is their purpose. The big thing we learned from this trailer, this team is not The Avengers.

The team consists of five members; Peter Quill, Starlord (Chris Pratt) who is the leader of the space outlaws. From what we learned from the trailer we can see that he is belligerent, a fool, and a low class criminal.

Gamora (Zoe Zaldana) the Femme Fatale, in the trailer we clearly see that she will be bringing a whole mess up close and personal action sequences. Who her opponent is remains to be seen.

Rocket Raccoon (Bradely Cooper) Probably the largest bag of mixed results comes in the form Rocket Raccoon. The internet finally delighted to see such an abstract character coming to the big screen, while day to day viewers can’t yet understand the purpose of a Raccoon killing things with a large gun.

Groot (Vin Diesel) the plant like creature of the group and the right hand man for Rocket. Not much can be said about this character besides the fact that the only thing he is able to say is “I AM GROOT”

Drax the Destroyer (Dave Batista) A living body of rage, after the death of his family he roams around the galaxy simply to destroy whatever crosses his path.

At the beginning of the trailer we immediately learn these are not your typical heroes; they are outlaws. Outlaws who believe they serve a higher purpose. The main plot of the film still remains a mystery. Other characters that are said to be involved are Thanos, one of the Marvel Universe’s largest villains as well as the Collector (Benicio Del Toro) who appeared at the after credits scene in Thor: The Dark World.

Director James Gunn has teased us with a glimpse at the future of the Marvel universe. So far he has established that this will not be your typical Ironman, Captain America, or Thor. This movie will bring something entirely different to the table, and yet still be treated with the quality that the Marvel films are so well known about. One things for sure though this group is not a bunch of A list heroes, they are a bunch of a-holes.
