Rams Recap: Splits Across The Board

Men’s Soccer

The men’s soccer team defeated Regis College, 2-1, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening. Senior Andres Cohen (Caracas, Venezuela) notched the game-winner in the game’s 62nd minute.

Unfortunately the Rams’ victory celebration was cut short as they fell to Johnson & Wales Univeristy, 1-2, on Saturday afternoon. Alberto Benhamu (Caracas, Nicaragua) recorded Suffolk’s lone goal for the day. Junior goalkeeper Nicholas Chamma (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) registered 11 saves in the loss.

Record: 1-1 for the week; 3-7 for the season

Standings: T-7th in GNAC (1-3)

Next game: host Elms College on Wednesday, October 9th at 8:30pm

Women’s Soccer

The women’s soccer team visited University of Saint Joseph last Wednesday, where they were shut out by the Blue Jays, 0-2. Junior goalkeeper Melissa Brouillette (Shelton, CT) had 12 saves on the day.

The Rams rebounded from the loss to USJ when they shut out Rivier University, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon. Senior Taylor Miranda (Smithtown, NY) opened up the scoring in the game’s 24th minute, recording her team leading fourth goal of the season. Junior Katherine Cote (Attleboro, MA) registered a goal and an assist on the day, and sophomore Nicole Hunt provided the insurance goal in the 86th minute to close out the game.

Record: 1-1 for the week; 3-7 for the season

Standings: 7th in GNAC (3-2)

Next game: host Johnson & Wales University on Wednesday, October 9th at 6:00pm

Women’s Volleyball

The women’s volleyball team split a non-conference tri-match on Saturday afternoon hosted by Eastern Nazarene College. Suffolk fell to the host Lions, 1-3, but shut out the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Buccaneers, 3-0.

Freshman Savannah Carpenter (Weston, CT) combined for 26 kills on the afternoon. Senior Colbey Kennedy (Old Lyme, CT) tallied 13 digs on the defensive side in each matchup, while recording a team-high 4 service aces in the Rams’ victories

Record: 1-1 for the week; 9-9 for the season

Standings: T-10th in GNAC (0-2)

Next game: at Rivier University on Tuesday, October 8th at 7:00pm

Women’s Tennis

The women’s tennis picked up their first win of the season, as they topped Anna Maria College, 7-2, on Saturday. Suffolk took five of six singles matches and a pair of doubles contests en route to their first victory.

Sophomore Rebecca Eshoo (Farmington, CT) was the lone Ram to earn multiple wins on the day, as she proved victorious in the number four singles position after pairing with freshman Lindsay Reese (Saco, ME) for an 8-1 victory in the third doubles game.

Earlier in the week they fell to Springfield College, 1-8. Senior Adrianna Garrett (7-6, 6-0) was the only winner for Suffolk.

Record: 1-1 for the week; 1-6 on the season

Standings: 4th in GNAC (1-1)

Next game: host Simmons College on Wednesday, October 9th at 6:00pm
