Anticipation Building for Pixar’s Monsters University
The buzz surrounding Monsters University was especially big this past February. After Pixar launched the incredibly realistic, detailed, and all around awesome college website last October, (monstersuniversity.com), more news began to pour in.
First there was the trailer, released on February 11th. Mike Wazowski, retainer and all, is the geeky college freshman. James P. Sullivan aka Sulley is a jerk; much different from the gentle giant we all know and love. The trailer, in addition to being very funny sets up enough anticipation for the film and the way Mike and Sulley’s relationship evolves. How do they go from rivals to becoming best of friends?
While there are some new faces, classmates of Mike and Sulley’s, there’s also another familiar face like Randall. You can spot him on the vibrant new poster that was released last month as well.
He looks just as geeky as Wazowski, and also a little innocent. This is a plot twist I do not think anyone was expecting, and it will be very interesting to see how Randall becomes the slimy little villain we all love today.
The marketing and theater standees for this movie have been clever throughout. These are now in movie theaters and are sure to keep anticipation building.
Lastly, while some probably view this film through disdain, wrongly lamenting that Pixar is only producing sequels (they are not), people should be rest assured that this story and its characters are in more than capable hands. Director Dan Scanlon is a Pixar veteran, and a hilarious one to boot. There are plenty of laughs to be had, as well as that trademark Pixar heart. You do not have to take my word for it though. Last September, Pixarian Catherine Hicks tweeted about just how funny Monsters University is, enough for me to eagerly await its arrival. You can check out her tweet below.
Head back to school on June 21st when Monsters University opens nationwide.
