Featured Organization: Student Alumni Association
“Suffolk Student Today. Suffolk Alumni For Life.”
Their goal to create unity is based off of four pillars: School Spirit and Pride, Class Unity, Career and Professional Support, and Philanthropy.
Based on those four pillars, the SAA has planned many events in the coming months to help create unity among the Suffolk community.
For school spirit and pride, the SAA plans to hold rallies before Suffolk sporting events, similar to the Women’s Volleyball rally held two weeks ago. The next sporting event is the Men’s Hockey game on Dec. 5, at the Steriti Rink, in the North End. The SAA wants to pack the house for the Rams when they take on Stonehill.
As for philanthropy, the SAA will be holding a “Thank-A-Thon” around campus before Thanksgiving Break. From Nov. 13-15, they will be giving students a chance to thank donors for their time and support. Tables will be set up around campus, allowing for students to write a simple “Thank You” or even personalize cards with something more personal. Handouts will also be given to students, informing them of how financial donations affect their educational experience. According to John Irvin, Associate Director of Advancement, “The current students are the Suffolk Alumni of tomorrow, by educating them as to where their donations would go; it creates a more supportive climate for the future.”
The SAA also plans to hold a career event closer to the beginning of December. In this event, students will be able to work on skills vital to a professional environment. There will be workshops on skills such as constructing a resume, handling a job interview, and using social networking websites such as “LinkedIn” and “Facebook.”
The Student Alumni Association is welcoming new members, and recommends that students “Like” the Suffolk University Student Alumni Association page on Facebook. You can use the Facebook page to find out about upcoming events.
The Student Alumni Association meets Tuesdays at 3:00PM in the 11th floor conference room at 73 Tremont Street.
